Back Premier League: Robin van Persie warns new signing Radamel Falcao

New signing Radamel Falcao is not guaranteed an immediate place in the first team at Manchester United, says Red Devils striker Robin van Persie. Colombia international Falcao, aged 28, joined United in a £6m loan deal on transfer deadline day, with the club having an option to buy him at the end of the season.

"I welcome his arrival, he makes us better," Van Persie said. "At a top club you should always go for the best, which also fits my philosophy. Falcao must fight for his place, as I also have to." Falcao managed to score 11 goals in 20 appearances for Ligue 1 side Monaco last season, before suffering a knee injury in January that kept him out of the World Cup in Brazil.

There were some reports claiming he had been brought in by United to replace Van Persie, aged 31, who was supposed to require knee surgery. "I am impressed that people have the imagination to invent something like that," said Van Persie. "I do not know where it comes from and can say with my hand on my heart that I won't be in a hospital to have the operation."

Radamel Falcao is 14/1 at Bet365 to become the Premier League top goalscorer this season while Van Persie is 16/1 to achieve that feat. Moreover, there is a special bet available at Bet365 on the number of goals Falcao would score this season, here are the options and the odds:

Over 13.5 goals - 5/6 Under 13.5 goals - 5/6
