Tennis: Monfils to face Federer in US Open quarter finals
Frenchman Gael Monfils produced the upset against seventh seed Grigor Dimitrov in a spectacular match to reach the US Open quarter-finals. The French player, seeded 20th, won 7-5 7-6 7-5 to record his first success on the main Arthur Ashe Stadium. Monfils advances to the quarter finals without dropping a set and will face Roger Federer, who cruised past Roberto Bautista Agut in straight sets: 6-4 6-3 6-2. Monfils appeared angry with his opponent at a certain point, standing almost on the service line and beckoning Dimitrov to serve before swatting the ball out and marching to his chair. "I just get a bit angry," explained Monfils after the match. "Then I was sorry for Grigor, because I was in front and was like, 'Just serve because obviously I give you the game, so it's OK. Move it.' Sometimes when I get frustrated, when I don't like something, I don't do it. It's nothing against anyone. I was upset." Dimitrov had a rather poor performance though, he made 38 unforced errors and allowed his opponent to make three breaks. He also double-faulted on match point. "Today I could only focus only on me, because I was just playing bad tennis," said Dimitrov, playing down the effect of his opponent's antics. "I actually couldn't see what's going to happen on the other side. I couldn't care less. Gael, he's a great player. He definitely found his way around the court pretty good." Monfils will play Federer on Thursday night, the two players have met nine times before and Federer has won seven of those matches. Here are the odds for the US Open quarter-finals match at Bet365: Gael Monfils win - 11/4 Roger Federer win - 2/7
