Jenson Button's Formula 1 career now highly uncertain as McLaren continue to insist on signing Ferrari's Fernando Alonso. They have approached the Spanish driver since last year and they are counting on him as a lead driver once their new engine partnership with Honda starts in 2015.
Button's contract runs out at the end of this year and wants to stay at McLaren. He admits this could be his last season though. "We haven't sat down and talked about it," he said. "If I have to retire at the end of the season then so be it, but I feel I have so much more to give and I can't imagine life without motorsport and especially Formula 1."
McLaren racing director Eric Boullier said: "Jenson is racing for us and we have discussions open with him, but until we have decided on our strategy, we will not finalise our driver line-up." Alonso is under contract to Ferrari until 2016 and the Italian team will surely want to keep him at least until the end of that deal.
The next Formula 1 race is the Italian Grand Prix on September 7th and Jenson Button is 125/1 at Bet365 to win that race while Fernando Alonso is 33/1 to finish first.
