Back Tennis: Serena Williams is the US Open top seed

World number one Serena Williams is the top women's seed at the US Open, the tournament starts next week and Williams will attempt to win a third consecutive title. This will also be her last chance to win a Grand Slam tournament this year after failing to reach the last eight in the season's first three majors.

French Open runner-up Simona Halep is seeded second, while Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova is third. French Open champion Maria Sharapova, who has also won the title at Flushing Meadows in 2006, is seeded fifth. Victoria Azarenka, who was defeated by Williams in the past two US Open finals, is seeded 16th after having injury problems throughout the season.

Five-time US Open champion Williams is hoping to win her 18th Grand Slam title, equalling the records of Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova.

Here are the outright odds at Bet365 for the top five favourites to win the US Open title:

Serena Williams - 13/8 Maria Sharapova - 11/2 Simona Halep - 7/1 Eugenie Bouchard - 9/1 Petra Kvitova - 10/1
