Premier League: Fabregas is the future, says Mourinho
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho says the Blues have moved on after Frank Lampard left the club by signing Cesc Fabregas. Lampard, aged 36, left the club this summer at the end of his contract before Mourinho signed midfielder Fabregas, aged 27, from Barcelona as his replacement. "Frank is the history of the club, history nobody can forget," said Mourinho. "Fabregas is the future; history is history but the future is more important at the moment." Lampard signed for Major League Soccer outfit New York City but returned to the Premier League by joining Chelsea's rivals Manchester City on loan until January. Lampard spent 13 years at Stamford Bridge and became the club's all-time leading scorer with 211. He could face Chelsea when City play them in the Premier League on 21 September. Mourinho added: "My opinion, and the opinion of my players, is that Fabregas is the right player to occupy that central position in midfield." Meanwhile striker Didier Drogba received some bad news, he twisted his ankle in the first half of Sunday's friendly match against Ferencvaros and could be out for a few weeks. Chelsea face Burnley in the Premier League next Monday and Cesc Fabregas is 11/4 at Bet365 to score a goal on his debut match for the Blues.
