Premier League: Newcastle closing in on Facundo Ferreyra
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew hopes his club can complete a deal to sign Shakhtar Donetsk striker Facundo Ferreyra on loan. The 23-year-old Argentinian forward is one of six Shakhtar players who have chosen not to return to Donetsk because of the on-going conflict in Ukraine. Pardew has already made six signings this summer but is keen on adding another striker to his squad. "It's something that is not done, but we're working to see if that can happen," Pardew said. "Facundo is a good presence on the pitch, a big guy at 6ft 2in, a player who has gone to the Ukraine and has been OK." Ferreyra scored six goals in just five starts for Ukrainian league champions Shakhtar last season. "If we manage to secure him, he would be a player who we'd expect to do a lot better here," Pardew added. The manager played down the possibility of a move for QPR striker Loic Remy, who was on loan with the Magpies last season. "We've not really had much contact with Loic and I don't see that evolving if I'm honest," said Pardew. "Whatever happened at Liverpool is irrelevant really, because he's had plenty of chances to come to us. We've made it clear we'd want to have him but it hasn't really happened and therefore you sometimes have to say where is the line drawn. Maybe that one has gone away." Newcastle are 10/1 at Bet365 to win finish in the Premier League top six next season.
