Paddy Power in Hot Water for ‘PelePower’

Paddy Power, both a land and online bookmaker recently used the current hype surrounding the World Cup in Brazil to gain a bit of recognition. Earlier this week, they decided to change the signage on a fraction of the percentage of the company's betting shops located in the UK as well as Ireland. In doing so, the hope was to make a connection between themselves and Brazilian player, Pele. Indeed, Paddy Power succeeded in achieving their goal, the signage of 'PelePower' certainly piqued the interest of many. However, things got a bit heated as legal representatives for the former soccer player encouraged the bookmaker to halt the signage act. Furthermore, the player's legal representatives demanded the sign be taken down in order to prevent any consequences. Needless to say, they did what they were told and the signs are no longer visible.
