Southampton and England striker Rickie Lambert, aged 32, will join Liverpool, the player will have a medical at Liverpool on Saturday after the clubs agreed a fee of around 4 million pounds plus add-ons. The striker was born in Liverpool and has spent five years with the Reds as a youth player. He had two years left on his contract with the Saints.

Lambert is in the England squad for Friday's World Cup warm-up match against Peru at Wembley and he will fly to Miami with the England on Sunday. He scored 14 goals in 39 games this season, and has 117 goals in 235 appearances for Southampton since he joined them in 2009.

Southampton had turned down one offer from Liverpool for Lambert and had also rejected a similar bid from West Ham in January. Liverpool also remain in talks with Southampton over England midfielder Adam Lallana, aged 26, and 24-year-old Croatian defender Dejan Lovren. The Reds have also made an enquiry for Sevilla left-back Alberto Moreno.
