Manchester United: Giggs could become the club's Guardiola, says Lindegaard
Manchester United goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard has added his voice to Wayne Rooney's in backing Ryan Giggs to be the next permanent manager at Old Trafford. Rooney praised Giggs after Saturday's 4-0 win over Norwich but the favourite for the job remains Dutch coach Louis van Gaal. Lindegaard has compared Giggs to Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola. "It might sound pretty rash and naive, but, in my opinion, we are dealing with a new Guardiola," he said. "What we have seen in the first week has been more than convincing. The similarities with Sir Alex Ferguson are striking and it is evident that Ryan Giggs has learnt from one of history's most respected football managers." Giggs is a player-coach at the club and took charge as interim manager after David Moyes was sacked last week. Giggs refused to speak about his long-term hopes for the role after the Norwich victory, saying he is concentrated on the next match. "Some would question whether you can go from being a team-mate one day to a manager the next," added Lindegaard. "Normally I would have reservations as well, but, in the case of Giggs, it is different. His latest speech, before the team went onto the pitch for the Norwich game, made my hairs stand on end in a way that I have only ever experienced from Sir Alex Ferguson: Do not disappoint the fans!" Van Gaal, who will leave his current position at the end of the World Cup, seems most likely to take charge while Real Madrid's Carlo Ancelotti is also in contention for the United job. Here are the current odds for the next Manchester United manager at SkyBet: Louis van Gaal - 1/5 Ryan Giggs - 6/1 Carlo Ancelotti - 18/1 Antonio Conte - 33/1 Jose Mourinho - 33/1 Jurgen Klopp - 33/1
