UK Government to Tighten Up Rules for Bookmakers
The UK government has stepped up the regulations on betting which will affect British bookmaking companies. The Guardian reported that the UK government plans to lower the maximum bet limits on Fixed Odds Betting Terminals in betting shops after numerous complaints. A source from the UK government said, "We know lots of people are worried about the numbers of betting shops that have sprung up on their high street. It is only right to give local communities the power to object to a new betting shop if they feel they already have too many on their doorstep. The balance has to be right." Next week, UK Prime Minister David Cameron is believed to announce a new class for betting shops which will see councils scrutinize applications closer than those of standard retailers.
