Premier League: Manuel Pellegrini targets Manchester City treble
Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini hopes his side's Capital One Cup final victory over Sunderland on Sunday can inspire his players to complete a domestic treble. The Citizens won 3-1 at Wembley to give Pellegrini his first trophy as manager in England. They will face Wigan in the FA Cup quarter finals and they are also well involved in the Premier League title race. "To win the first trophy is important for us all. For the players, for me and for the staff," said Pellegrini. "We are the only club with the chance to try to win all the competitions. We are going to try although we know it is not easy." City take on Wigan in the FA Cup quarter finals next Sunday. It will be a repeat of last season's FA Cup final, one that was surprisingly won by Wigan 1-0. The Citizens are currently fourth in the Premier League, six points behind leaders Chelsea, but they have two games in hand on their rivals. No club has ever managed to win all three domestic trophies in one season, and Pellegrini thinks winning the Capital One Cup will give his side "a lot of confidence". They could still win a quadruple but that will take a half-miracle as they have to overturn a two-goal deficit in the Champions League tie against Barcelona. Pellegrini said: "When you have the chance to win a trophy and you don't, you may not go out with your mind the same way. We have Wigan first. We have respect for them - remember what happened in the FA Cup final - but we are going to try and do it." City captain Vincent Kompany said his fellow players should be "hungry" for more silverware. "We've achieved something great for the club and we need to carry on. I was delighted to win this trophy at Wembley. It's the best stadium, for me it's the best in Europe, maybe even the world, and lifting the trophy here is something special." Manchester City are 6/4 to win the Premier League at Bet365, their odds to win the FA Cup are at 10/11, while they are 66/1 for a Champions League triumph this season.
