NFL to Introduce Rule to Penalize Use of Racial Slurs?
The NFL intends to introduce a rule that will penalize players 15 yards for the use of racial slurs on the field. John Wooten, former NFL offensive lineman and chairman of the Fritz Pollard Alliance expects the rule to be put in place according to ESPN. Under the rule, use of the “N word” will result in a 15-yard penalty and removal for a second occurrence. “I will be totally shocked if the competition committee does not uphold us on what we're trying to do,” Wooten said. “We want this word to be policed from the parking lot to the equipment room to the locker room. Secretaries, PR people, whoever, we want it eliminated completely and want it policed everywhere.” The NFL's competition committee will meet to discuss the rule in Naples, Florida next week.
