Virginia to Prosecute Illegal Sports Betting Site
An online sports betting operation, Playweewa.com, was shut down and approximately nine involved individuals are to be prosecuted in Roanoke, Virginia are working. The illegal gambling operation generated more than $5 million in bets before the feds shut it down in 2013. Punters were given credit but limited to single bets according to their finances and honesty. According to court documents, law enforcement utilized informants and undercover officer to wager and gather information regarding the operation. A large amount of cash was seized when the ring was busted. Overall, Playweewa took $5 million a year in bets but over the course of its final year it collected $6.4 million in wagers.
