Transfer News: Liverpool chase Ukraine star Yevhen Konoplyanka
Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre was in the Ukraine on Wednesday night looking to close a deal for Dnipro attacking midfielder Yevhen Konoplyanka before the transfer window closes on January 31st. Konoplyanka has scored eight goals for the national side in 35 games and Liverpool have competition for his signature as Tottenham also seem interested in the 24-year old attacker. The transfer fee would be around 15 million pounds. Liverpool were initially chasing Swiss winger Mohamed Salah but Chelsea beat them to his signature so the Reds were forced to find another target. Konoplyanka can play in multiple attacking positions, on both flanks and behind a striker. He scored a great goal against England in a 1-1 draw at Wembley in September 2012. Dnipro are on a winter break at the moment and Konoplyanka played in a friendly against Videoton last Saturday which Dnipro won 6-1. He scored the second goal and created another four. The player's father, Oleg, hinted a deal was in the making and said: “I do not want to say specifically but the information about a transfer to the English club is true. He can change club later this week. We do not consider offers from Ukraine.” Here are the odds at SkyBet for a Konoplyanka transfer before the transfer window slams shut: Liverpool - 4/7 Tottenham - 7/4 Chelsea - 40/1 Manchester City - 40/1 Manchester Utd - 40/1
