Michael Carrick and Danny Welbeck out of England squad
Manchester United duo Michael Carrick and Danny Welbeck have withdrawn from the England squad for the friendly matches against Chile and Germany. Carrick has an Achilles tendon problem while Welbeck has a knee injury. England will face Chile on Friday and Germany on Tuesday, both matches at Wembley. The Football Association stated that boss Roy Hodgson will not add any new players to his squad of 26. Carrick, who has won 31 caps for England, played despite his injury in United's 1-0 victory over Arsenal on Sunday and even managed to complete the game. Welbeck, who has scored eight goals in 20 matches for England, has not played since 19 October. England had serious problems in preparation for the two friendlies as they needed to switch bases after a stomach bug alert at the site of the National Football Centre. The squad met up in Watford on Tuesday, rather than their usual home in Staffordshire, as a precautionary measure. The precautions seemed to have the expected effect though as no England players have experienced any virus symptoms. At Bet365 you can put your money on whether a certain player will be in the World Cup squad. Michael Carrick is 1/5 to make the squad for the 2014 World Cup while Danny Welbeck is 1/8 to be picked by manager Roy Hodgson in the outfit for Rio.
