Premier League: Sunderland stun title contenders Manchester City
Manchester City suffered a surprising defeat at Sunderland on Sunday, their fourth Premier League defeat of the season. Phil Bardsley scored the only goal of the match in the first half when he curled home a low shot. City dominated the match after the goal but Sunderland withstood the pressure thanks to a very well organised defence and a solid performance from goalkeeper Vito Mannone. Sergio Aguero had a good chance but headed wide from close range and had Mannone denied another shot from the Argentinian striker and the Black Cats clinched the three points. Quite a coincidence: Manchester City have suffered 1-0 defeats on each of their last four matches at the Stadium of Light. Sunderland are doing very well under new manager Gus Poyet, three wins in four games in all competitions and the third in as many home games since the new boss took charge. City had a slow start to the match and they were punished, but not at the first chance. Fletcher headed one wide for Sunderland before Bardsley muscled the ball off Milner before firing home a precise finish. Aguero could have made it all square on the half hour but headed wide while Navas had two shots blocked by the defenders after the break. Then goalkeeper Mannone stepped into the spotlight, palming away an Aguero shot and an good effort from substitute Dzeko. Manchester City are now 8th in the Premier League table, six points behind leaders Arsenal, while Sunderland are still down in 19th place despite their recent revival. Manchester City are the top favourites to win the title at Bet365, they are 11/4 to win it, while Sunderland are 8/11 in the "not to be relegated" market.
