Premier League: Everton and Tottenham in Goodison Park stalemate
Tottenham and Everton both missed the chance to climb up into second place as they recorded a goalless draw at Goodison Park. Spurs were the better team in the first half and Everton replied after the interval, but there were only a few clear-cut chances in the ninety minutes of play. Both sides also had penalty appeals turned down. Tottenham had the first try in the opening minutes as Sandro forced a good save from Tim Howard. Then Andros Townsend then tried one from distance but missed the target and Roberto Soldado squandered a great chance as he glanced a header wide from an Aaron Lennon cross. Townsend had another shot deflected over and Howard did well again to stop a Kyle Walker free kick and kept his side level once more when he denied a Lewis Holtby shot. Everton had the first chance at the half hour when Leon Osman fired inches over the bar. Everton had a much better start in the second period as Romelu Lukaku launched one good counter-attack, feeding Belgium team-mate Kevin Mirallas but an impressive tackle from Vlad Chiriches denied him the chance to score. Ross Barkley came on for Osmanand the youngster made an instant impact as he flashed a shot over. Tottenham are currently 11/8 to finish in the top four at Bet365 while Everton are 8/1 to clinch a Champions League spot at the end of this season.
