Cycling: Cavendish expects Froome to win World Road Championships
Britain's Mark Cavendish believes Tour de France winner Chris Froome has a "super chance" of winning the upcoming World Road Championships. Cavendish will be in the team to support Froome in his attempt to become the first man in 24 years to win the Tour de France and world road race in the same year. "I've based my training in the last month around going well at the World Championships," said Cavendish. "We're going with just one plan and that's to set Chris up." The men's race will take place on Sunday and it goes through 272.5km in Tuscany, Italy. There will be two difficult climbs, in San Domenico (4.3km, max gradient 9%) and Via Salviati (600m, max gradient 16%). Froome and Cavendish will be joined on the British team by Sir Bradley Wiggins, Geraint Thomas, Jonathan Tiernan-Locke, Ian Stannard, Josh Edmondson and Steve Cummings. The steep climbs should suit Froome and Cavendish believes he can help his team-mate to achieve what American Greg LeMond did in 1989, the last man to win both the yellow and rainbow jerseys in the same year. "If we didn't think he had a really good chance, we'd be going in with more than one plan," added Cavendish. "It's a hard course. He's in good form. He's won the Tour de France and we've got eight guys. We're in a good position to try to challenge for the win." Froome is not among the top favourites for the race according to the bookies though, he is 25/1 at Bet365 while the top five favourites are as follows: Fabian Cancellara - 13/4 Peter Sagan - 11/2 Philippe Gilbert - 13/2 Vincenzo Nibali - 12/1 Alejandro Valverde - 12/1
