Premier League: Chelsea join Willian transfer race
Chelsea have entered the race to sign Brazilian international Willian and they did that at the very last moment since the talented winger already had a medical ahead of a proposed £30m move to Tottenham. Chelsea can offer the player Champions League football, something that neither Spurs or Liverpool, who are also interested, can offer. However, if Tottenham manage to prize him away from Anzhi Makhachkala, it would be the third time they have broken their transfer record this summer. After Tottenham's 5-0 Europa League win over Dinamo Tbilisi, manager Andre Villas-Boas said: "We were involved in the game so, unfortunately, I cannot give you further information to what is happening. I confirmed on Wednesday there was interest in the player, if something happens... everything is possible. I'm not aware of all the circumstances because of our involvement in the game. Neither did I want it to be a distraction for what we achieved tonight." Tottenham have already signed Brazil midfielder Paulinho for a fee of just under £17m from Corinthians and then spent £26m on Valencia's striker Roberto Soldado. Their previous transfer record fee was the £16.5m paid for Darren Bent from Charlton in 2007. Chelsea have made just one expensive transfer this summer, the £18m signing of forward Andre Schurrle from Bayer Leverkusen. Blues boss Jose Mourinho has insisted on signing Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney but the Red Devils rejected two bids. Chelsea will face Manchester United right next Monday, it will be interesting to see if they will make another bid for Rooney before the direct clash. Until then, here are the odds for the match at Bet365: Manchester United win - 29/20 Draw - 12/5 Chelsea win - 21/10
