Premier League: Manchester City thrash Newcastle 4-0
New Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini had a perfect start to life in the Premier League as his team produced a superb display to brush aside 10-man Newcastle. City made their intentions clear right from the start and David Silva scored an early opening goal before Sergio Aguero doubled the advantage. Steven Taylor was sent off before Yaya Toure converted a free-kick and Samir Nasri wrapped things up with a late goal. Manchester City have spent nearly 90 million pounds on new players this summer and that effort seemed to pay off at Etihad Stadium on Monday. The Citizens started the match at a frantic pace and could have scored twice before they actually found the back of the net in the sixth minute when Dzeko crossed for Silva who headed home. Newcastle were unable to contain their opponents and Dzeko had yet another chance squandered before he managed to set up the second goal, flicking Kompany's long pass to Aguero who fired into the bottom corner after surging past Taylor. Things got worse for the Magpies after the break as Jonas Gutierrez was taken off due to an injury and then Taylor was shown a red card for taking a swing at Aguero. Goalkeeper Tim Krul limited the damage with a pair of great saves on Dzeko but was unable to stop Toure's free kick shot, it went straight into the top corner five minutes after the break. Late on substitute Samir Nasri made it 4-0 after receiving a pass from Zabaleta. The impressive performance on Monday made Manchester City the new favourites to win the Premier League title at Bet365, they are now 7/4 to claim the crown while Chelsea are 2/1 and Manchester United 3/1.
