Fans at Turner Field wondered how an Atlanta Braves fan could have fallen to his death over a 42 inch railing and on to the below parking lot Monday night.
Police said the death of Ronald Lee Homer Jr. was accidental and witnesses say no one else was around.
Braves fan Larry Bowman said, "I can't figure out what would have happened. It's almost chest high. You would have to ... well, I don't know."
Homer, 30, was familiar with the stadium as he went to three to four games every month plus the railing would have reached his mid-section.
He stood on the fourth-level smoking area waiting for the rain to stop and spoke to his mom on the phone telling her he was going to get seated just before he fell.
"He said `I love you mom, and I said `I love you too' and that was it," his mother, Connie Homer, told The Associated Press on Tuesday morning.
Police say he was not breathing when paramedics arrived and he was killed by the fall.
