England beat Scotland thanks to Lambert goal
Rickie Lambert scored on his first ever England cap and with his first ever touch of the ball in international football as England came from behind twice to beat Scotland at Wembley. The 31-year-old Southampton striker headed England's winner into the back of the net just three minutes after replacing Wayne Rooney. Scotland had taken the lead twice as first James Morrison and then Kenny Miller took advantage of England's insecure defending and goalkeeping. England replied with goals from Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck before Lambert's decisive header. The spotlight was on Rooney before the match but the Manchester United striker failed to provide what was expected from him. He looked determined though, always looking to make a difference but unfortunately rarely managing to do so. Rooney had England's first chance when he diverted Baines' cross wide but Scotland opened the scoring on a corner kick, the England defenders failed to clear the danger and Morrison fired past goalkeeper Hart, who could have stopped the ball on a better day. England managed to make it all square before the break when Cleverley played a great pass down the right for Walcott who produced one of his trademark sprints before firing past goalkeeper McGregor. Scotland bounced back in front after the interval when Miller easily got rid of Gary Cahill before firing home. England replied quickly through a Gerrard free kick that was headed home by Welbeck before Lambert sealed the win with a powerful header on a Baines corner kick cross. England will return to official action in three weeks time when they face Moldova in World Cup Qualifying Group H. England are currently second in the group, two points behind Montenegro but with a game in hand. Here are the odds for the group winner at Bet365: England - 1/2 Ukraine - 13/5 Montenegro - 8/1
