Tennis: Andy Murray defeated by Gulbis in Montreal
Wimbledon champion Andy Murray was defeated for the first time since May as Ernests Gulbis managed to beat him in the third round of the Rogers Cup in Montreal. The Latvian player, currently ranked 38th in the world, won 6-3 6-4 in an hour and 28 minutes of play. Montreal was Murray's first tournament since Wimbledon, and his return to action was a winning one as he defeated Marcel Granollers in straight sets on Wednesday. The match against Gulbis was a totally different story though as the talented Latvian was just too strong on the day. Murray served well in the first set, had over 80% in first serve percentage, but Gulbis took advatage of the few opportunities he had on the Briton's second serve. Gulbis had three set points at 5-4 and he converted the second one with a great backhand return. Then Gulbis worked his way to a 3-1 advantage in the second set but Murray broke back with a superb backhand winner. Gulbis broke again to make it 5-3 and then served out, ending the match with his seventh ace of the match. "The thing that pleased me the most was that I won," said Gulbis. "I struggled in the first set from the baseline but got more confident and took my chances. I didn't blink when serving out for the match but I didn't play my best tennis. I hope I will be even better tomorrow." Fourth seed Rafael Nadal defeated Wimbledon semi-finalist Jerzy Janowicz 7-6 (8-6) 6-4, while world number one Novak Djokovic defeated Denis Istomin in three sets, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. With Murray out of the tournament the outright odds at Bet365 have changed, here are the options for the top three favourites: Novak Djokovic - 8/11 Rafael Nadal - 11/4 Milos Raonic - 15/2
