Back Tennis: Novak Djokovic cruises through in Montreal

Novak Djokovic is through to the third round of the Rogers Cup in Montreal after a comfortable 6-2 6-1 win over Germany's Florian Mayer. This was the first ATP Tour match for Djokovic since losing the Wimbledon final to Andy Murray last month. The world number one defeated Mayer opponent in just 55 minutes. Mayer, ranked 50th, double-faulted to lose the opening set and was unable to fight back in the second.

World number one Novak Djokovic won the Rogers Cup in 2007, 2011 and 2012 and has extended his winning streak at this tournament to 11 matches. "After a month off I didn't know what to expect. I was extra careful against a tough opponent," Djokovic said. "I'm keeping my mind-set of step-by-step, one match at a time. I needed extra commitment from the start and everything went well on court."

Djokovic, who is seeking a third consecutive Rogers Cup title, takes part in the Canadian tournament in order to prepare for the US Open, which starts at Flushing Meadows in New York on 26 August. Spain's Rafael Nadal also entered the competition but in the doubles as he partnered compatriot Pablo Andujar to beat fellow Spaniards David Ferrer and Feliciano Lopez 6-7 6-1 12-10 in the first round. Nadal, who lost in the first round of Wimbledon to Steve Darcis, is playing the doubles event to improve his match fitness, while also taking part in the singles tournament.

Nadal faces Canadian player Jesse Levine tonight in the second round, here are the odds for the match at Bet365:

Nadal win - 1/25 Levine win - 12/1 Under/Over 18.5 games - 5/6
