Transfer News: Liverpool submit offer for striker Diego Costa
Liverpool have made an official £21m offer for Atletico Madrid's Brazilian striker Diego Costa and the bid is believed to have met the player's release clause. Costa joined Atletico from Valladolid in 2010 and scored 10 goals in the Primera Liga last season. The striker also managed to make his international debut in March 2013. Liverpool are now awaiting a response from Atletico but they insist this move has nothing to do with Luis Suarez's uncertain future at Anfield. The Uruguay striker has not submitted a formal transfer request but he claims he should be able to discuss terms with Arsenal after the Gunners have submitted an official £40m bid. Liverpool disagree with Suarez and have rejected Arsenal's bid. The offer for Costa is quite surprising, but Atletico head coach Diego Simeone has indicated the striker could be allowed to leave as Atletico have bought David Villa from Barcelona. Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers said earlier this week that he would only sign players that would improve the squad. "They have to be of the right quality, that's the bottom line," he said. "We've got money to spend on getting that quality in, but if it's not available I won't waste it for the sake of bringing a player in." Liverpool aim for a top four Premier League finish this season and you can bet on whether they would achieve that or not at Bet365. Here are some of the odds for the "to finish in top 4" option: Arsenal - 4/7 Tottenham - 2/1 Liverpool - 2/1 Everton - 20/1
