Tennis: Roger Federer suffers shock defeat in Gstaad
Roger Federer's terrible run of form continued even on home soil as he lost to world number 55 Daniel Brands at the Swiss Open. The top seed and former world number one was beaten 6-3 6-4 in just over an hour in the second round by the German player in Gstaad. Federer, aged 31, lost in the second round at Wimbledon and has since then been trying out a larger, more powerful racquet frame. That doesn't seem to work though as last week he lost to Argentine qualifier Federico Delbonis, the world number 114, in the semi-finals of the German Tennis Championships in Hamburg. Brands, aged 26, hit 11 aces in the match against Federer and secured a place in the quarter-finals against Romania's Victor Hanescu. Federer has now lost to players outside the top 50 in the rankings at his last three tournaments, at Wimbledon he was beaten by Ukraine's Sergiy Stakhovsky, who was 116th in the world. His exit leaves fellow Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka in pole position to win the tournament in Gstaad, here are the outright odds for the top three favourites at Bet365: Stanislas Wawrinka - 5/4 Juan Monaco - 11/4 Mikhail Youzhny - 9/1
