Premier League: Manchester City sign Alvaro Negredo
Manchester City have completed the signing of Sevilla striker Alvaro Negredo subject to a medical, according to an official statement from the Spanish club. The 27-year-old Spain forward held a farewell press conference in Seville and said he was looking forward to playing at a higher level. "For four years I have been very happy, but I think my time was over here," said Negredo. City are paying around £20m for the striker, who scored 26 goals in the Spanish league last season. If the transfer goes through Negredo will join former Sevilla team-mate Jesus Navas at Manchester City. Navas, also aged 27, completed a £14.9m transfer on a four-year deal earlier this summer and Negredo said he was looking forward to getting back together with his former team-mate. "I am happy to be spending another year with him," he said. Sevilla president Jose Maria del Nido said: "Manchester City are buying a great player, the top-scoring Spaniard in La Liga. This is a big deal for Sevilla, the second most important in our history after we sold Daniel Alves to Barcelona, and the player will sign the contract of his life. Everyone should be happy - it is a great deal for all three parties." Negredo has won 14 international caps and scored six goals for his nation, and was part of Spain's winning Euro 2012 squad. Sevilla have been exporting quite a few players to England this summer as they also sold Luis Alberto to Liverpool and Antonio Luna to Aston Villa while Jose Campana is set to join Crystal Palace. Manchester City are 9/4 to win the Premier League at Bet365, tied with Manchester United at the same odds.
