Premier League: Captain Steven Gerrard to sign new Liverpool contract
Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard will sign a new two-year contract at Anfield. There have been talks between Gerrard's agents and Liverpool managing director Ian Ayre going on since the end of the 2012-2013 season and the parties have finally reached an agreement. The new contract means that Gerrard will most likely still play for Liverpool at the age of 35. Gerrard's current contract had been due to expire at the end of next season but manager Brendan Rodgers was keen on securing the services of the 33-year-old midfielder for an extra couple of years. Gerrard has made his debut for Liverpool more than 14 years ago. He made his Liverpool debut on 29 November 1998 in a Premier League match against Blackburn Rovers and became the club captain in 2003. He was the Reds' top goalscorer in 2004-05, 2005-06 and 2008-09, and has scored a total of 159 goals in 630 senior appearances for the club. He has helped Liverpool win the Champions League once, the Uefa Cup as well, two FA Cups, three League Cups, two Community Shields and two Super Cups. Liverpool are 33/1 at Bet365 to win the Premier League next season but they might have a better shot at winning the FA Cup, odds are at 10/1 for that achievement.
