The big win scored by Andy Murray in Wimbledon tennis finals against the world no.1, Serb Novak Djokovic cost British bookies a lot of money, as they went into a GBP 15 million minus, having to pay numerous Brit punters who bet heavily at 11-8 on Murray.
According to a Ladbrokes spokeswoman, the match had cost the company "a packet".
She specified that “Murray began the final as the underdog and it seemed that punters were betting with their hearts rather than their heads… but we're thrilled to be proved wrong.”
However, thanks to this win, Murray is now just 7-4 to triumph again next year.
