If nothing else, Vancouver Canucks’ Roberto Luongo will always have Poker
Roberto Luongo, 34-year-old goalie for the Vancouver Canucks, is also a serious poker player. He's ready to take part in the World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas on July 6th. Luongo was a participant in last year's WSOP Main Event coming in at 634th of 6,598 players. His prize was a total of $19,227. In the hockey circuit Luongo is a popular man as it remains unclear whether or not he will be a Canuck. The team has plans to trade him in 2014 despite the fact that he's an Olympic gold medal winner and Stanley Cup finalist. The major hurdle involved in Luongo's trade is his salary. He comes along with a huge 12 year contract worth $64m. The tide turned during the 2012 playoffs, when Cory Schneider became the starter over Luongo, before the Canucks were eliminated by the L.A. Kings. The general manager will attempt to trade Luongo again this weekend, as the NHL Entry Draft happens at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J. “We're going to try and accomplish that goal,” Gillis told the Canadian Press this week. “We'll see what happens.”
