Cycling: Mark Cavendish wins National Road Race Championship
Mark Cavendish was the fastest in a sprint finish which allowed him to claim his first ever National Road Race Championship in Glasgow on Sunday. The rider from the Isle of Man overtook David Millar on the home straight and held off the challenge of Ian Stannard, who recovered from a puncture in the penultimate lap to finish second. This win was the perfect way for Cavendish to polish his preparation for the Tour de France, which starts on Corsica on Saturday. Cavendish had to work hard for this win though, with Millar attacking in the final stages after a four-man leading group had broken away in the ninth of 14 laps of the 14.2 kilometer circuit around Glasgow's city centre and West End. But Millar was unable to build a big enough gap from Cavendish in order to avoid a sprint finish. Mark Cavendish will compete for the green jersey in the Tour de France, the jersey that rewards the leader of the points classification. He will tough competition though as Peter Sagan and Andre Greipel also want that jersey and they are a lot better than Cavendish on climbs, which means they might get points in stages that Cavendish will probably finish way behind the bunch. Here are the outright points classification odds for the Tour de France at Bet365: Peter Sagan - 9/10 Mark Cavendish - 23/20 Andre Greipel - 10/1 Marcel Kittel - 33/1 Aleksander Kristoff - 40/1
