Controversial Sportsbet Ad Divides Aussies

Controversial Sportsbet Ad Divides Aussies
A rather unusual field advertisement by Paddy Power subsidiary and local online betting group Sportsbet seems to have further divided Aussies amid the political debates on gambling promotion and marketing in Australia. The controversial rugby-related advert of an unbelievable size - 90 metres x 170 metres – has been painted on a large field in the vicinity of Melbourne airport. Yet, it's not only the impressive size that attracts the travellers' attention, but rather the ad's intersting content, to put it mildly. In reference to the test matches being played between the Australian Wallabies team and the touring British Lions, the ad shows Sportsbet logo and the slogan 'rooting for the Wallabies' next to a picture of wallaby "cuddling" (though it may be interpreted differently) a lion. The field will be seen by hundreds of thousands of incoming travellers over the next few weeks of the Lions tour, and many organisations, politicians and individuals have opined that it benefits neither Australia, nor the rugby tests. On the other hand, many Aussies find the ad humorous and typically Australian for its unconventional and direct style. Time only will tell whether the ad will produce desired results for Sporsbet in the land down under.
