Tennis: Roger Federer wins his first title of the season
Roger Federer grabbed his first title since August 2012 as he defeated Russia's Mikhail Youzhny in the final of the Gerry Weber Open in Halle, Germany. The 31-year-old former world number one won 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 6-4 to snatch the 77th title of his amazing career and his sixth at this tournament. Federer fought back from a set down both in the semi final and in the final, and it's the first time he does that since 2007. Federer is now equal third with John McEnroe on the list of most tournament wins behind Jimmy Connors (109 titles) and Ivan Lendl (94 titles). The Swiss became the fourth player in the Open Era with at least 77 career titles and has now won an ATP title in 13 successive years, equal to Connors' streak (1972-84) while only Ivan Lendl won at least a title 14 years in a row (1980-93). Another interesting fact is that four of Federer's seven Wimbledon titles have come after he had won the tournament in Halle. "I have won a lot in my career but not recently," said world number three Federer. "I was satisfied with my game in the past 10 months. Maybe people thought I was playing badly but that was not the case. I was playing well but when it mattered the others were just better. Today it worked well." The Wimbledon tournament will start next week and the competition for the title is quite interesting since Djokovic, Nadal, Murray and Federer all have a solid chance of walking away with the title. Here are the Wimbledon outright tournament win odds at Bet365: Novak Djokovic - 6/4 Andy Murray - 11/4 Rafael Nadal - 11/4 Roger Federer - 5/1 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga - 14/1
