Minnesota State's right-hander, Jason Hoppe, has set the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) single-season record with 55 1/3 back to back scoreless innings.
On Thursday evening, Hoppe managed to throw 3 1-3 scoreless innings making Mavericks history with a 6-5 win over St. Edward's. This secured their advancement to the school's first Division II national championship game. Hoppe's pitching streak finally ended with a one-out single in the fourth inning.
He has broken the 2006 record of 54 set by SIU-Edwardsville's Kyle Jones.
Hoppe has been on fire for nearly 8 weeks since the April 7th game against Augustana. Three runs on eight hits in five innings got by on his watch.
The Mavericks (42-8) are scheduled to play either Tampa or Grand Valley State in Saturday's title game.
