Once again, Sen. Rod Wright's proposal to legalize intrastate sports betting, SB 1390, was killed at the state legislature's Senate Appropriations Committee stage.
Similarly as last year, when the bill survived the state Senate but failed to pass
a House appropriations committee due to its challenge of the federal Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, SB 1390 failed to reach any advanced stage of consideration.
In related news, another delay has been set in New Jersey's Third US Court of Appeals case against an earlier federal court ruling supporting the PASPA.
Apparently, the Department of Justice and sports leagues which are fighting the appeal were unable to present their responses to an earlier New Jersey submission to the court on May 21, so an extension was granted until May 28, with oral hearing arguments still being scheduled for June 26.
