Update: FBI in Covert Online Gambling Investigation in Oklahoma
A report came this week that undercover FBI employees investigating Oklahoma gambling operations posed as online gamblers, and won and lost thousands of dollars building a case against online sports betting organization Legendz Sports, which led to the federal indictment of 34 people in the United States. According to the indictment, Legendz solicited bets of more than $1 billion on sporting events from gamblers in the United States around the clock, and it also had a call centre in Panama, Okla. A similar report arrived from Hartford, Connecticut where three men have been sentenced to prison for their involvement in the now closed 44Wager sports betting website which also operated from Costa Rica. The trio includes Anthony Santoro (49) from New York, Michael Vitti (33) and Daniel Degruttola (33), both from Stamford. They all appeared before US District Judge Vanessa L Bryant, who sentenced Bryant sent Santoro to jail for eight months, followed by three years of supervised release, Vitti to 10 months of imprisonment and three years of supervised release, and Degruttola to three months of home confinement and three years of supervised release. She also ordered Santoro to forfeit $25,000, and $100,000 each to Vitti and Degruttola.
