Update: HMRC Intends to Appeal to the Upper Tribunal

Sportech plc recently came out victorious in a VAT battle against Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs in the UK, as the the First-tier Tribunal's Tax Chamber ("FTT") ruled in favour of Sportech regarding the issues concerning the VAT treatment of its Spot the Ball game over the period 1979-1996.

However, according to the latest update issued by the online and land gambling group, HMRC has revealed that it intends to request permission to appeal to the Upper Tribunal against the FTT ruling.

The decision on whether HMRC have been granted the right to appeal is expected to be issued in the next 2-4 weeks. The Board of Sportech will continue to take appropriate legal and professional advice regarding the Group's position, and keep all stakeholders duly informed.
