Champions League: Bayern Munich hammer Juventus
Bayern Munich had no trouble in reaching their third Champions League semi-final in four years after knocking out Juventus. The Germans were leading 2-0 from the first leg and they added another pair of goals in the second as Mario Mandzukic headed in Bastian Schweinsteiger's free-kick before Claudio Pizarro slotted home late on. Arjen Robben also came close but his finish hit the post. Juve only managed to produce a saved free kick through Andrea Pirlo and a shot against the woodwork by Fabio Quagliarella. With Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund progressing, it is the first time two German sides have reached the Champions League semi-finals Juventus needed to score at least two goals in the second leg but that seemed quite unlikely as Bayern started the game very well, dominating the middle of the pitch. Juventus could have taken the lead against the run of play on 23 minutes but Manuel Neuer pulled off a superb save to deny Pirlo's great free kick shot. Bayern replied through Mandzukic, denied by a block from Simone Padoin before Thomas Mueller fired wide from 18 yards. Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon then did well to stop David Alaba's effort following a corner kick. Things changed after half time as the home side looked more determined to attack and their attitude change could have been rewarded when Quagliarella fired one against the post after cleverly cutting in from the left flank. Bayern regained control though and Robben smashed one against the post before Mandzukic's 64th minute goal. Schweinsteiger delivered a free kick from the right, Buffon parried Javi Martinez's volley and Mandzukic headed in the rebound. Substitute Pizarro doubled the lead before Mueller missed another good chance for the Germans. Juventus's European campaign is now over and they will now focus on the Serie A where they have a nine-point lead over Napoli at the top of the table. Their next match is a very tough one at Lazio, will be played on Tuesday March 15th. Here are the odds at Bet365 on that encounter: Lazio win - 3/1 Draw - 5/2 Juventus win - 10/11
