Williams Sisters to Lead US Team for Fed Cup
Sisters, Serena and Venus Williams, are set to lead the US Fed Cup team against the Swedish team on hardcourts at the Delray Beach Tennis Center from April 20th – 21st. All ranked within the WTA top 30, the US team is to host Sweden. On Wednesday the US team announced that they will also include No. 16-ranked Sloane Stephens and No. 27 Varvara Lepchenko. Serena Williams, ranked No. 1, is 8-0 in Fed Cup singles play and 3-0 in doubles while Venus is 14-2 in singles and 4-2 in doubles. "I'm really excited about the team that we have," US Fed Cup captain Mary Joe Fernandez said. "We have great talent and depth, which is a perfect combination." This is a significant match as the winner will move on to the 2014 world group with the opportunity to go for next year's Fed Cup title. The losing team will slide down to world group II in 2014. Sweden's team will include 54th-ranked Sofia Arvidsson, 65th-ranked Johanna Larsson, 425th-ranked Hilda Melander and 489th-ranked Sandra Roma.
