Premier League: Citizens win Manchester derby
Manchester City cut Manchester United's lead at the top of the Premier League to 12 points as they snatched an impressive 2-1 victory at Old Trafford. Substitute Sergio Aguero scored a spectacular winning goal 12 minutes from time and that gave City their second successive victory at Old Trafford. James Milner put the visitors ahead early in the second half but an own goal from Vincent Kompany made it all square before Aguero settled the derby with a great strike. Wayne Rooney was back in United's attack after recovering from a groin injury that kept him out of the FA Cup defeat at Chelsea. The first half saw both teams trying to control the game but there weren't any clear cut chances. Rafael came the closest for United as his effort from distance bounced off the angle of post and bar just before half time. There were quite a few tense moments though as Rooney was booked for a two-footed tackle on Milner while Kompany was shown a yellow card for a rough challenge on Ashley Young. City finally managed to break the ice six minutes after the interval with some help from Ryan Giggs, who gave the ball away to Gareth Barry who found Samir Nasri and the Frenchman set up Milner's 20-yard powerful shot which took a slight deflection off Phil Jones before going past goalkeeper David De Gea. The home side pulled level just eight minutes later when a free kick from Robin van Persie was headed towards goal by Jones, ricocheted off the back of Kompany before rolling into the back of the net. Mancini decided to send in Aguero for Nasri with 20 minutes left and the move paid off immediately. Aguero produced one of his trademark bursts of pace inside the penalty area before firing a perfect angled drive past De Gea. Manchester City are 12 points behind United with 7 games left in the season, a title challenge seems unlikely for the Citizens but it is possible in theory. If you think they can pull it off you might want to try a bet at Bet365, Manchester City are 33/1 to win the Premier League at this point while Manchester United are 1/500.
