Update: Betfair Not to Continue Blue Square House’s Sponsorship of Football Conference
A report came this week that after the acquisition of specific assets of Blue Square Bet, the new owner Betfair has decided to end Blue Square Bet's six-year sponsorship of the Football Conference. This puts the Football League and the Football Conference into a bad position, as they find themselves without a headline sponsor for the 2013/14 season from the end of next month. However, it appears that they are trying to sort this out in negotiations with a number of potential sponsors. The Football Conference is a football league in England consisting of three divisions called Conference National, Conference North, and Conference South. Until now, Conference National has been known as the Blue Square Bet Premier and the tiers below as Blue Square Bet North and Blue Square Bet South, but this is obviously to change soon. It seems that the parting still happened on friendly terms, as according to Brian Lee, chairman of the Football Conference, Blue Square honored the agreement "in each and every clause" over the past six years.
