Sportradar Becomes Majority Shareholder in Sportstat

A report came this week that sports and betting-related data supplier Sportradar has become a majority shareholder in sports data provider Sports Statistics & Information Systems Ltd (SportStat).

SportStat is known as an official data collection partner to the International Rugby Board, Rugby World Cup, World Snooker, the Professional Darts Corporation and other rugby union and league clubs.

This acquisition is a key milestone in the execution of Sportradar's 'one-stop-shop' provider strategy, and it will support the continued expansion of sports coverage, enabling Sportradar to cover even more games in real-time in the near future.

Commenting on the new majority shareholder, Hugh Copping, managing director of SportStat, said: 'Sportradar has a very strong position in the betting market and their experience is highly complementary to our own capabilities. We believe in their vision of where the market is going and their value proposition is compelling. Together we aim to be recognised as the leading sports data provider, embracing technological advances to create the most comprehensive sports data solutions for our global audience.'

On behalf of Sportradar, the group CEO Carsten Koerl added: 'Having worked in partnership with the governing bodies of rugby union, darts and snooker for many years, SportStat are able to supply top class fast data live from the venue. Therefore, SportStat's product portfolio is the perfect complement to our own Live Betting and media Services. We are convinced that together we can shape future developments and play an active part in the creation of an even more exciting live betting and media offering for our clients.'
