Tennis: Murray cruises through in Miami, Djokovic crashes out
Andy Murray went into the match all guns blazing and he swept aside Italy's Andreas Seppi to reach the quarter-finals of the Sony Open in Miami. Murray wasn't very convincing in his previous match against Grigor Dimitrov, but this time he broke early and snatched a comfortable 6-2 6-4 win. Murray will play Croatia's Marin Cilic, the world number 11, in the quarter finals. Top seed and world number one Novak Djokovic was the victim of a huge upset later in the day as he was defeated in straight sets by veteran Tommy Haas, 6-2 6-4. Murray will replace Roger Federer as the world number two if he wins the tournament and he could well win it considering the solid performance against Seppi and Djokovic's exit. The Scot made 60% of first serves in the opening set, and created good opportunities for himself in each of Seppi's service games, breaking twice. Seppi made Murray put in more of an effort in the second set as he held firm until 4-4 when a forehand into the net handed the Scottish player the third break of the match. Murray nearly threw away the opportunity, double-faulting at 30-30 to give Seppi his first break point of the day, but he got out of trouble and he wrapped up the match in one hour and 26 minutes. Next for Murray is a quarter-final against Cilic, who beat sixth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 7-5 7-6 (7-4). Murray is the big favourite for that match as he has a 7-1 record in previous matches against Cilic. In other matches, fourth seed Tomas Berdych beat Sam Querrey 6-1 6-1, eighth seed Richard Gasquet fought past 10th seed Nicolas Almagro 6-7 (3-7) 7-5 7-6 (7-3), and third seed David Ferrer saw off Kei Nishikori 6-4 6-2. Andy Murray is now the favourite to win the tournament, he is 4/5 at Bet365 while Thomas Berdych is priced at 9/2 for an outright tournament win, with David Ferrer at 7/2.
