Premier League: Brendan Rodgers says Luis Suarez deserves to be named Player of the Year
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers reckons his Uruguayan forward should be in contention for this season's PFA Player of the Year award since the striker has scored 25 times for a The Reds. Suarez is likely to make the award's shortlist but is currently third-favourite according to the bookmakers behind Gareth Bale and Robin van Persie. Rodgers said: "I couldn't look much further than Luis Suarez. He has been phenomenal - that is not just an opinion as his manager. If I look across the board this is a guy who had to play alone up front because he was the only striker we had for nearly six months and never missed a day's training and played every minute of every game. His performances have spoken for themselves. There's many great players in this league but for me he has been absolutely outstanding." Team-mate Lucas Leiva also supports Suarez for the award: "I just hope he wins because I think he deserves it after everything he has done this season. I think it's going to be between Luis, Van Persie and Bale. All three have performed really well and have scored a lot of goals, but we hope Luis has got the luck to win it." Liverpool travel to meet Wigan in the Premier League on Saturday, here are the odds for the match at Bet365: Wigan win - 18/5 Draw - 14/5 Liverpool win - 5/6
