New Jersey Sports Betting Ruling Overdue?
New Jersey federal judge Michael Shipp heard all the opinions on the legality of New Jersey's new sports betting law at a hearing two weeks ago, after which he said he would pass a ruling at the end of February – which is now officially over. To remind our readers, the issue around the new law arose between the state of New Jersey and an alliance of national sports leagues and the Department of Justice over the law's confrontation with the federal Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, which allows sports betting in just four US states. Supporting the bill and New Jersey governor Chris Christie's decision to sign it into state law is the New Jersey Attorney General's office, the state's Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association, state Senate President Stephen Sweeney and Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver… as well as 64 percent of New Jersey residents who expressed their support of such legislation in a referendum late last year. The outcome and the final ruling in this case will hopefully be heard soon.
