Premier League: Gareth Bale rescues Tottenham once again
Gareth Bale continued his stunning scoring run with a splendid last-minute winning goal against West Ham to move Tottenham up to third place in the league table with a thrilling 3-2 win. It was Bale who gave his side the lead with a powerful strike before West Ham forward Andy Carroll earned and converted a penalty kick. Then Joe Cole put West Ham ahead with a low shot before Spurs pulled level thanks to a goal by Gylfi Sigurdsson. Bale put in an amazing performance but he was denied on several occasions by superb saves from West Ham goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen but the goalie was helpless in the last minute when the Welsh ace picked the ball in a central area, worked his way closer to goal and fired a superb left-footed drive straight into the top corner. Bale has now scored eight of his team's last 10 goals in all competitions and upped his season tally to 19. West Ham enjoyed a good start to the match and they came close to opening the score on a shot from Matt Jarvis but goalkeeper Hugo Lloris did well to save. And then came Bale, the left winger picked up the ball 25 yards from goal, skipped past James Collins and fired past Jaaskelainen to put Tottenham ahead. West Ham made it all square on 25 minutes when Scott Parker brought down Andy Carroll into the penalty area, referee Howard Webb pointed to the spot and Carroll converted into the roof of the net. Tottenham tried to reply quickly but goalkeeper Jaaskelainen pulled off great saves either side of half time to stop dangerous headers from defender Steven Caulker. Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas sent in Sigurdsson after the break and the move nearly paid off instantly as the midfielder hit the upright with a shot from outside the penalty area. THe ball bounced to Emmanuel Adebayor but the Togolese striker headed into the arms of the goalkeeper. West Ham replied in style and scored through Joe Cole, the midfielder received a pass from Joey O'Brien and fired past the goalkeeper into the far corner of the net. Tottenham started pouring forward searching the equaliser but goalkeeper Jaaskelainen was in superb shape and denied Caulker once again before tipping over a great effort from Bale. Hugo Lloris was no worse himself as he denied Taylor and then Spurs finally found the equaliser through Sigurdsson who fired home after the West Ham defence was unable to clear a free kick cross from Bale. Jaaskelainen then denied Sigurdsson and Adebayor before Bale put the icing on the cake with his superb last-minute strike. Spurs will play the much anticipated North London Derby against Arsenal on March 3rd, here are the odds for that match at Bet365: Tottenham win - 11/8 Draw - 5/2 Arsenal win - 15/8
