Europa League: Tottenham pull through at Lyon
A splendid long-distance strike from Mousa Dembele in the closing minutes booked Tottenham a last-16 Europa League tie against Inter Milan. Spurs had been on the brink of elimination at the hands of Lyon due to the away goals rule. Maxime Gonalons's header overturned Spurs' 2-1 advantage from the first leg but Dembele saw Tottenham through in the 90th minute when he skipped past Clement Grenier before firing low beyond the goalkeeper. Tottenham only needed to defend the lead gained at White Hart Lane last week but that didn't seem possible early in the game as the home side created two good chances inside the opening three minutes of the game. Another chance was created by Grenier on 10 minutes when he delivered a perfect cross for Alexandre Lacazette but the forward's header was straight at the goalkeeper. Grenier didn't give up though and he created a goal nine minutes later when his free kick cross was headed home by Gonalons. Tottenham tried to react before the break but it was only Gareth Bale who created something through a good run that was eventually denied by Lacazette. New signing Lewis Holtby came close before half time but his long shot bounced off the post. The Spurs started to play much better after the break and Bale came close on a good cross from Adebayor, his volley went just wide. Lyon were dangerous as well, goalkeeper Brad Frieded had to pull off two good saves to stop Grenier and Lacazette. At the other end of the pitch Bale was denied twice by goalkeeper Remy Vercoutre, then Clint Dempsey had a good chance 15 minutes from time and the visitors' efforts were rewarded on the stroke of full time thanks to Dembele's great goal. Tottenham will face Italian side Inter Milan in the last 16, but they will have a London Derby to worry about before that as they face West Ham in the Premier League next Monday. Here are the odds at Bet365: West Ham win - 13/5 Draw - 5/2 Tottenham win - 23/20
