England grab historic win over Brazil
England secured their first win against Brazil for 23 years as Frank Lampard's sensational strike gave the Three Lions victory at Wembley. Wayne Rooney put England ahead in the first-half lead with his 33rd international goal, after goalkeeper Joe Hart had earlier saved Ronaldinho's penalty. Substitute Fred made it all square on an error by Gary Cahill shortly after the break but then Frank Lampard, another half-time substitute, put England ahead for good with a fine effort from the edge of the penalty area. England's win over Brazil was the first since 1990 when Gary Lineker was the only man to score in a 1-0 victory at Wembley. It was the first time England have scored two goals against Brazil since 1984 when John Barnes and Mark Hateley scored in a 2-0 away win in the Maracana. Arsenal's Jack Wilshere was chosen man of the match as he played a brilliant part in England's success, especially in the first half. However, Wilshere started on the wrong foot as he referee awarded a penalty for Brazil due to a handball by the Arsenal player, but Joe Hart saved the spot-kick and also pulled off an amazing recovery to deny the rebound shot. England then took the lead nine minutes later when Wilshere played a superb ball for Walcott who was denied by the keeper only for the ball to roll into Rooney's path and the Manchester United striker made no mistake in steering the ball into the back of the net. Then rising Brazil star Neymar had a huge opportunity on a perfect cross from Oscar but he scooped well over from just a few yards out. Brazil had a better start in the second half and they grabbed the equaliser through substitute Fred who powered home after Cahill conceded the ball inside his own half. Fred could have scored again moments later when a poor clearance by Hart gifted Brazil the ball but Fred's shot hit the crossbar before going over. England regrouped and Julio Cesar was forced to a great save on Cahill's corner kick header before Lampard fired a great shot that went in off the upright. Brazil remain favourites to win the 2014 World Cup, Bet365 have them at 4/1 while England are priced at 20/1.
