Lakers Forward, Metta World Peace Suspended for Striking Detroit Pistons Point Guard
Metta World Peace, forward for the Las Angeles Lakers, is being with suspension from one game for grabbing a player from the opposing team by the neck and hitting him in the jaw during a game. The news of the suspension came from the National Basketball Association (NBA) on Tuesday. Point Guard for the Detroit Pistons, Brandon Knight, and World Peace struggled at the hoop while attempting a rebound toward the end of the second quarter of Sunday's game where World Peace struck him out of frustration. Despite the debacle, the Lakers proceeded to win by one point 98-97. The punishment is that World Peace will be required to site out during the Lakers' upcoming games against the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday according to a statement from the NBA. As a result of the suspension, the Lakers will be short two starters against the Nets as seven-times All-Star center Dwight Howard approaches his third consecutive absence from the team due to an injury to his shoulder. Violence against another player in the NBA shows poor sportsmanship. Does the punishment fit the crime in this situation?
