Update: US DoJ Gets Formally Involved in New Jersey Sports Betting Wrangle
Now formally supporting the national sports leagues on their quest to prevent New Jersey from introducing legalized sports betting, the US Department of Justice filed its brief opposing such attempts of the Garden State and allowing all interested parties to respond to the brief by February 7, while oral arguments are to be heard by Judge Michael Shipp on February 14. Among those who supported the state in its intention to pass the law that would allow intrastate sports betting are the Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association, the Atlantic City casinos, state Senate President Stephen Sweeney and Assembly Speaker Sheila Oliver.
